Local Legislators Announce Rescue Plan To Save MTA, Q74 Bus
Assemblywoman Nettie Mayersohn, Assemblyman Rory I. Lancman, State Senator Toby
Ann Stavisky, Assemblywoman Grace Meng, Congressman Anthony Weiner and
Councilman James Gennaro hailed the announced rescue plan for the Metropolitan
Transportation Authority, which will save the Q74 bus line. The Q74 runs from
Kew Gardens to Flushing and would have been eliminated by the MTA's "Dooms Day"
budget.
"The Q74 is very important for people who live in my district, especially students who rely on this bus line to take them to and from school and I am pleased that we were able to save it," said Assemblywoman Mayersohn.
"This is excellent news for all the constituents in my district, old and young,
that rely on the Q74 bus to take them where they need go. The new agreement is
very important for Queens, saving it from cuts to vital transit links like the
Q74 and avoiding unfair and regressive bridge tolls," said Assemblyman Lancman.
"As a member of the Transportation and Finance Committees, I worked with my
colleagues to prevent service cuts and tolls on the free East River bridges. The
long range results of a capital program, financial audits and MTA reforms will
benefit all Queens residents," said Senator Stavisky.
“The spine of our city is public transportation, we need it to get around. Saving the Q74 saves countless neighbors from having to struggle to get to work and school. I want to thank all our constituents and students for contacting our office and helping us save the Q74," said Assemblywoman Meng.
“The Q74 is a lifeline for many commuters and residents of queens. I am thrilled that my colleagues in Albany were successful in saving it," said Congressman Weiner.
"I applaud the saving of the Q74. As the lifeblood that feeds the Pomonok Houses, Queens College, CUNY Law School and Townsend Harris High School, thousands of students and residents will be able to reach Queens Borough Hall, the courthouse and the E and F subway lines on Queens Boulevard with uninterrupted service,” said Councilman Gennaro.
