Summary
Enacts the
University Emergency Alert Act; provides that on or before July
first, two thousand ten, each institution of higher education
shall, pursuant to rules and regulations promulgated by the
board of regents, implement an emergency alert system in order
to notify and advise students, faculty, staff, elected
representatives and neighboring residents within a suitable
geographic area of the institution of incidents or occurrences
at the institution which, in the judgment of the institution,
pose a threat to the health or safety of students, faculty,
staff or neighboring residents; participation in an
institution's emergency alert notification system shall be
mandatory for students, faculty and staff at the institution who
possess the electronic device necessary to receive the emergency
alert.
