Assemblyman Lancman's Statement On The Elimination Of $1.3B In Proposed Taxes From The State Budget

In response to the deal between the New York State legislature and Governor Paterson to remove $1.3 billion in proposed taxes from the 2009-2010 budget Assemblyman Lancman issued the following statement:

"I opposed the regressive sales tax hikes in the executive budget from the start.  It is very promising that the Assembly, Senate and Governor were able to reach an agreement that spares working New Yorkers from being nickel and dimed with taxes that disproportionately burden the middle class.  We need a budget that spreads sacrifices fairly, not one that targets those already struggling to get by--dropping these regressive measures is a good start."
